Champions League Draw 2023-24: Schedule of Dates for Group-Stage Fixtures

The UEFA Champions League draw mostly favoured Manchester City, who now has a manageable path to the knockout stages in search of a second consecutive European title.

Champions League Draw

Fall is nearly here, which means it’s almost time for the preeminent club football competition in the world to return: the UEFA Champions League.

Following Thursday’s group-stage draw, City will be joined in Group G by RB Leipzig, Crvena Zvezda, and BSC Young Boys. After leaving RB Leipzig earlier this month, star center-back Joko Gvardiol will play his former team twice.

Group F could be the most exciting of the eight. Paris Saint-Germain is certain to finish top, but any of Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, or Newcastle United might advance to the round of 16.

The favourite is Manchester City (+200), followed by Bayern Munich (+500) and Real Madrid (+800).

Manchester City is the only Premier League club to have started the season with three consecutive victories. Its most recent triumph, which came thanks to an 88th-minute goal by Rodri, has some questioning if the title fight is already finished, such is Pep Guardiola’s squad’s sense of inevitability.

However, if City fails to defend its European crown, winning the Premier League may not be enough to call this season a success.

The same can be said for Bayern Munich, which will be celebrating its 11th consecutive Bundesliga victory in 2022-23. The club is yearning for a sixth European Cup, and pressure could mount on manager Thomas Tuchel if his team struggles to get out of the gate in the group stage.

The Bavarians bought Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur in one of the greatest summer deals, providing them the pure goalscorer they missed after Robert Lewandowski joined Barcelona last year.

Kane has three goals and an assist in two Bundelisga games, and his presence will undoubtedly pay benefits in the Champions League.

However, for many neutrals, Bayern Munich will not be the Bundesliga club that commands the greatest attention in the Champions League.

Union Berlin was promoted to Germany’s top flight for the first time in 2019. It will now have to compete with the European elite. Union’s ascension is almost too perfect to be true.

To that end, fans are looking forward to upcoming matches against Real Madrid, Europe’s most decorated club, and reigning Serie A winner Napoli. The fact that Union Berlin is a long shot to make a deep run will be insignificant.
