Lionel Messi has officially arrived in American football, with the Argentine superstar making his presence known since his headline-grabbing move from Paris Saint-Germain to Inter Miami was announced in July.

Messi is without a doubt the biggest star in MLS, and very definitely the biggest the league has ever seen, so all eyes will be on him as he attempts to elevate Miami from the bottom of the table to playoff candidates and, eventually, title contenders.
Inter Miami has received their first piece of cutlery. That seemed unthinkable only a few weeks ago. The worst MLS club, taken down by every opponent in their march to a trophy? Come on!
They didn’t have Lionel Messi just a few weeks ago. They certainly do now.
Messi was, undoubtfully, the star of the show once again as Miami defeated Nashville SC at Geodis Park, scoring a fantastic goal to start a match that ended 1-1 after 90 minutes. Messi’s goal was classic: little space, a curling shot, and no chance for the opposing goalkeeper.
A gritty goal kept Nashville in the game, but Messi and co. were unstoppable even when the game went to penalties. It was also a historically good shootout, with all 22 players taking turns from the line. Messi, of course, scored as Miami’s first taker, but Miami couldn’t rejoice until Nashville SC goalie Elliot Panicco had his shot saved by Drake Callendar.
Messi was once again the key to everything. There were few memorable moments in the game, and Callendar will undoubtedly be remembered as the hero, but Messi has done it again. Same result, new team: trophy in hand.
