Manchester City only needed to win one more trophy. City have won every single medal under Pep Guardiola, with the exception of one. They finally finished the set on Friday evening. Phil Foden’s goal and important role in a second goal propelled Manchester City to a 4-0 victory over Fluminense in the Club World Cup final.

Guardiola’s team went up in the first minute. Nathan Ake’s powerful effort deflected off the post and into the path of Julian Alvarez, who skillfully chested the ball into an open goal. They added a second goal against the odds when Phil Foden’s cross was deflected in off Nino.

Throughout the game, the Cityzens produced more chances, with Foden at the core of it all. He identified the compact spaces and tidy pockets while playing offensive midfield. And he was eventually rewarded, scoring a well-deserved goal to make it 3-0 — an easy tap-in following a lovely piece of buildup play from Alvarez. Late in the game, the Argentine scored City’s fourth goal with a quick move and snipe inside the box.

Fluminense didn’t offer much other than the occasional burst down the flank or saunter into the box, so this was a straightforward win. Guardiola, on the other hand, will be anxious about Rodri’s fitness as the top defensive midfielder limped out with an apparent injury.

City, on the other hand, may walk home satisfied, having finally completed club football, winning every possible prize in an incredible — if tainted — eight-year run.
