Katrina Kaif’s first film in 2024, Merry Christmas, has begun to gain momentum at the box office. According to a Sacnilk report, the Sriram Raghavan-directed film grossed ₹3.75 crore across all languages on its third day. The picture, based on Frédéric Dard’s French novel, Le Monte-charge (Bird In A Cage), grossed ₹9.65 crore, according to the report. Merry Christmas was shot and released simultaneously in Tamil and Hindi to reach a wider audience. This is Katrina Kaif’s first on-screen collaboration with Vijay Sethupathi. In addition to the major performers, the Hindi adaptation has Radhika Apte, Aditi Govitrikar, and Sanjay Kapoor in key parts.

The film business, like moviegoers, is wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. On the day of Merry Christmas’s release, filmmaker Atlee, who recently collaborated with Vijay Sethupathi on Jawan, gave it a major shout-out. In an Instagram Story, Atlee stated, “Merry Christmas! I’ve been waiting to write this one.

Dear Vijay Sethupathi, You were an absolute pleasure to see, and your peak performance was incredible. You are always an inspiration. Keep inspiring us with these beautiful flicks. Love you. Katrina Kaif’s work is breathtaking. Shriram Raghavan Sir, what a movie. It exudes classicism. Add a big feather to your cap, Sir.”

Saibal Chatterjee scored Merry Christmas 3.5 stars, stating, “The film begins with a split screen that reveals two mixer-grinders.” One converts chiles and lentils into maligai podi, while the other makes a powder from tablets. Both hide terrible secrets. When they are uncovered, they show two sides of obsessive love gone wrong. Isn’t life really a grind? What one makes of it relies, as it does for the film’s two protagonists, on the flavour it leaves behind. Filled with artistic, visual, and musical flourishes that considerably increase the mystery surrounding a Christmas-eve ‘romance’ between an unhappy married mother of a young wide-eyed girl (Pari Maheshwari Sharma) and an enigmatic loner who returns to his Mumbai home after a long absence.”
