Plunket Shield 2023-24: Plunket Shield, New Zealand’s highest first-class competition, is due to begin on October 20. The competition was named after William Plunket, New Zealand’s  Governor-General from 1904 to 1910.

The Plunket Shield 2023-24 will take place in New Zealand from October 20, 2023 to March 27, 2024.

The Plunket Shield is New Zealand Cricket’s domestic first-class cricket competition, which has been held since the 1906-07 season. Since the 2009-10 season, it has been referred to as the Plunket Shield.

Six teams will compete in the campaign: Auckland Aces, Central Stags, Canterbury, Northern Districts, Otago Volts, and Wellington Firebirds.

Each team will play a total of eight games, with the side with the most points at the end of the tournament declared the winner. Each game, the winning team will receive 12 points.

Central Districts will be the reigning champions, having topped the points table with 101 points in the 2022-23 season. Canterbury finished as runners-up after taking second place.

Basin Reserve in Wellington, Seddon Park in Hamilton, Eden Park Outer Oval in Auckland, Saxton Oval in Nelson, Hagley Oval in Christchurch, University Oval in Dunedin, McLean Park in Napier, Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, Mainpower Oval in Rangiora, Fitzherbert Park in Palmerston North, and Molyneux Park in Alexandra will all host the competition.

Bharat Popli, an Indian-born New Zealand cricketer who plays for Northern Districts, led the batting rankings in the previous tournament with 819 runs. With the ball, Jacob Duffy of the Otago Volts took the lead with 32 wickets.

The Plunket Shield 2023-24 will be streamed live on New Zealand Cricket’s YouTube page in India.

There will be no live coverage of the Plunket Shield 2023-24 on any Indian television channel.
