The actress and her son, actor Saif Ali Khan, both featured on the most recent episode of Karan Johar’s celebrity chat show “Koffee with Karan.”

On the most recent episode of Koffee with Karan, Sharmila Tagore appeared to reveal that she had been diagnosed with cancer. Sharmila revealed that she couldn’t play a supporting part in Karan Johar‘s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani because she was concerned about her health at the time. Karan expressed sadness for not being able to collaborate with her on the picture, which went on to become a critical and commercial success.

Shabana Azmi was eventually cast in the role. Shabana plays Alia Bhatt’s grandmother in the film, and she has a parallel romantic track with Dharmendra’s character. “I’d offered Sharmila ji the role originally played by Shabana ji; she was my first choice.” But she couldn’t say yes because of health issues at the time. “I regret it,” Karan admitted.

Tagore made his acting debut earlier this year in the family drama “Gulmohar,” co-starring Manoj Bajpayee. The film, directed by Rahul V Chittella, was made available on the Disney Hotstar streaming service.

“It was at the height of COVID,” Sharmila explained. They hadn’t really dealt with COVID at the time, and we hadn’t been vaccinated. Following my cancer… They didn’t want me to risk it.” He said, “It will be a regret, and it is something I hope that we can make up for and work together.”

Sharmila made her acting debut earlier this year in the Disney+ Hotstar film Gulmohar, alongside Manoj Bajpayee. The drama, inspired by Monsoon Wedding, was set in New Delhi and featured Sharmila as an LGBT character. She expressed concern about being ‘accepted’ in the part, especially because it had been so long since her last on-screen performance. However, she was encouraged to see how progressive viewers had become, particularly since the streaming era.
