Tomatoes only at Rs 70 now available online through ONDC


Now we can buy tomatoes at just Rs 70 from the luxury of our house as the government’s agricultural marketing company National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India Ltd (NCCF) started selling tomatoes at a cheaper rate of Rs 70 per kilogram through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).

NCCF Mananging Director Anice Joseph Chandra told ANI that tomatoes will be made online through buyers app listed at ONDC such as paytm, Magicpin. Mystore and Pincode to begin with.

We can place our order from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm daily and the delivery will be made next day. “There will be no extra cost for the delivery for the consumer” according to Chandra.

However, now we can only order 2kg per order.

“The interface is simple and user-friendly. Consumer can easily order from the apps and can get tomatoes at Rs 70 only but the limit is 2kg per order” Chandra said.

Currently E-Commerce companies are selling tomatoes at doorstep delivery at Rs 170-180 per Kg.

The sharp rise in tomato prices was reported across the country. In some big cities the prices was upto 180-200 per Kg.

To give further relief to consumers, the central government on last Wednesday said it has directed its marketing agiencies – NAFED and NCCF – to sell tomatoes at Rs 70 instead of Rs 80.

In the midst of a sharp rise in tomato costs the nation over, the organizations – – NCCF and NAFED – had started the obtainment of tomatoes from mandis in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra for concurrent removal in significant utilization places where retail costs have kept most extreme expansion in most recent one month.

The government told due to storm season we can see rise in prices of tomatoes, saying that it further got more difficult for distribution and increased transit losses.
